Starting out

Here goes nothing! An 8 week old Finn and sleep-deprived Mummy (me!) started on the LEAP programme for supporting the Plastic Free Baby business idea this month. I slapped on a whole load of make up and put on the only dress that fitted me, and managed to get to the seminar at 9.30am which was nothing short of a miracle. The team headed up by Sandra Walker from EDeal was ever so supportive of Finn being part of the day, allowing me to feed him and tend to him throughout! I am so grateful to them for their support; as we know, not everyone is so willing to bend for single mums, breastfeeding mums, working mums, and so on and so on…

Future entrepreneurs from Lewes, Seaford, Newhaven, Peacehaven and the surrounding areas are being encouraged to take part in this years LEAP (Local Enterprise and Apprenticeship Platform) for business support and their chance to win £2,500 cash.

LEAP is fully funded by Lewes District Council and delivered by EDEAL Enterprise Agency, providing those wishing to start their own business ventures support and guidance over a period of ten months, as well as competing for the title of “Entrepreneur of the Year”.

Leader of Lewes District Council, Cllr. Andy Smith said:
“I was delighted to attend the first LEAP workshop and personally meet thirteen candidates who have decided to take the first step in starting their own business. The enthusiasm and passion they have in their business idea is infectious as they share what they are hoping to achieve this year. It is so important to support small businesses as they are the drivers of our local economy, and without adequate support, such as the programme offered by LEAP, these businesses can fail”
